Odoo ERP for SMEs: module selection, implementation and customisation
Odoo is a modular open-source ERP platform covering accounting and CRM through to warehouse management, manufacturing and e-commerce. For mid-sized companies, Odoo is particularly attractive through its unified data model across all modules, low licensing costs compared to SAP or Microsoft Dynamics, and high adaptability via Python-based modules.
An Odoo implementation starts with process documentation and module selection: which business processes to cover, which data to migrate from legacy systems, which custom modules are necessary. Scope clarity at the outset prevents the most common cost driver: late requirements in the implementation phase.
Odoo Community Edition is free and sufficient for many use cases; Enterprise Edition offers an extended module portfolio, official support and additional cloud hosting options for monthly fees. The choice depends on the required modules and preferred operating model.
