The Challenge
Aquarium lighting is more than on/off
Plants, corals, and livestock benefit from stable, predictable light curves—from dawn to a night-time moon phase. When LED systems are driven over cable or wireless links, owners need a UI that expresses complex scenes and time windows without electronics jargon, while staying quick to operate at the tank. Unclear status or fragile pairing after router or OS updates drives support load; the app must present states unambiguously.
Wireless stacks, device diversity, and app stores
The mobile client must run on common iPhones, iPads, and Android devices, handle Bluetooth and local-network permissions cleanly, and stay maintainable through store updates. Users expect reliable connection to the controller, traceable storage of scenes, and a UI that remains readable in dim room light. For daytime®, it was important that trade professionals and end users share the same app as the primary tool—without parallel special workflows.
Our Solution

Smart Control SC16 app: scenes, schedules, live control
We implemented the daytime Smart Control SC16 app for iOS and Android: users program lighting curves and scenarios, persist them, and steer the daily lighting rhythm with a clear UI tailored to aquarium use. Real-time control and multiple operating modes stay accessible; richer logic sits behind understandable inputs instead of nested expert menus. Delivery is from our team in Leer, East Frisia—with short communication paths to the client and structured handling of platform and store requirements.
Architecture and quality
The architecture separates device communication, scene logic, and presentation so firmware or store changes do not force a full rewrite. Testing on realistic device classes and typical home Wi‑Fi setups reduces surprises after updates. The result is a dependable companion app for SC16 hardware—built in Germany with maintainable modules and clear state communication in the UI.
Results
Benefits for hobbyists and trade
Aquarists gain a single mobile surface for planning and fine-tuning at the tank: less guesswork on scenes, clearer control of the daily rhythm, and fewer tool switches. For trade and service it remains traceable which settings are active—helpful for retrofits, extensions, or on-site explanations.
Reference for smart home, BLE & WiFi
The project shows how we deliver connected lighting and IoT-style mobile apps: from pairing with control hardware through understandable UX to store-ready builds—Made in Germany from East Frisia. If you plan a similar app for controllers, sensors, or smart-home components, the daytime Smart Control SC16 is a concrete example from our practice.

Why light programs matter
Natural day cycles and deliberate dusk phases support plants and animals and make observation easier. The app bundles these needs into programmable flows instead of isolated switch points.
Working with daytime®
Product information and downloads are published on the manufacturer website. Smart Control app development is done by Groenewold IT Solutions; product rules and device behaviour are aligned with daytime® so hardware and app are perceived as one system.
