Knowledge & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions About BLE & WiFi
Technology & Basics
What is the difference between BLE and classic Bluetooth?
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) is optimized for energy-saving applications – ideal for sensors, beacons, and wearables with years of battery life. Classic Bluetooth is suited for continuous data streams (audio, file transfer) with higher energy consumption.
What range do BLE and WiFi have?
BLE: typically 10-50m, with Long Range (Coded PHY) up to 200m. WiFi: 30-100m indoor, significantly more outdoor. Actual range depends on environment, obstacles, and transmission power.
What are BLE beacons?
Small transmitters that regularly broadcast their ID. Smartphones detect these and can trigger location-based actions. Standards: iBeacon (Apple), Eddystone (Google). Use cases: indoor navigation, proximity marketing, asset tracking.

Application Areas & Use Cases
What applications is BLE suitable for?
Indoor navigation, asset tracking, access control, smart home, fitness wearables, proximity marketing, device configuration. Wherever energy-efficient, wireless short-range communication is needed.
When is WiFi the better choice?
For higher data throughput (video, large files), when power supply is available, or for real-time cloud connectivity. WiFi RTT also enables precise indoor positioning without additional beacons.
Can BLE and WiFi be combined?
Yes, this often makes sense. Example: BLE for device detection and configuration, WiFi for firmware updates and cloud sync. Many of our projects use both technologies complementarily.
How accurate is indoor positioning with BLE?
With optimal beacon placement: 1-3 meter accuracy. For higher precision (below 1m), we use UWB (Ultra-Wideband) or combine multiple technologies. Accuracy depends heavily on the environment.
Project Process & Implementation
What does a typical BLE/WiFi project look like?
1. Requirements analysis and technology selection. 2. Hardware prototyping (if needed). 3. App development with BLE/WiFi stack. 4. On-site integration and testing. 5. Rollout and optimization based on real data.
Do you also develop the hardware?
We primarily work on the software side (apps, backend, firmware). For hardware, we cooperate with specialized partners or integrate existing modules (ESP32, Nordic nRF, etc.). If needed, we assist your hardware team with interface definition.
How long does BLE app development take?
Simple device configuration: 4-8 weeks. More complex IoT apps with cloud connectivity: 3-6 months. Indoor navigation with beacon infrastructure: 4-8 months. Duration depends heavily on feature scope and hardware complexity.

Hardware & Infrastructure
Which hardware platforms do you support?
ESP32, Nordic nRF52/nRF53, Texas Instruments CC26xx, Dialog Semiconductor, and many more. On the app side: iOS (CoreBluetooth), Android (Bluetooth API), React Native, Flutter. We choose the platform to match your requirements.
How many beacons do I need for indoor navigation?
Rule of thumb: 1 beacon per 50-100m² for navigation, denser for precise tracking. In a 1,000m² building, typically 15-25 beacons. We create an optimal installation plan after an on-site analysis.
How long do beacon batteries last?
Depending on transmission interval and power: 1-5 years. With aggressive settings (100ms interval), shorter. We optimize the configuration for your use case and recommend maintenance intervals.
Costs & Maintenance
What does a BLE/WiFi project cost?
Simple companion app: from EUR 15,000 plus VAT. Complex IoT solution with backend: EUR 50,000-150,000 plus VAT. Complete indoor navigation (app + beacons + installation): from EUR 30,000 plus VAT. After the briefing, we create a detailed cost plan.
What ongoing costs are there?
App maintenance: 10-20% of development costs/year. Backend/cloud: depending on usage (typically EUR 200-1,000/month plus VAT). Beacon replacement: every 2-5 years. We offer maintenance contracts with transparent conditions.
How is the solution maintained long-term?
Regular app updates (iOS/Android compatibility), security patches, beacon monitoring and replacement, backend maintenance. Optional: dashboard for your team to self-manage the beacon infrastructure.
Does the app work without internet?
BLE works completely offline – device communication does not require internet. For cloud features (sync, analytics), connectivity is needed. We implement offline-first architectures with local data storage.

Bluetooth Low Energy and WiFi are the invisible bridges between digital software and physical devices. From smart home controls to medical wearables to industrial sensor networks – wireless communication between app and device opens up application possibilities that were unthinkable just a few years ago. Our BLE and WiFi references showcase projects in which we successfully established this very connection between software and hardware.
Developing apps with BLE and WiFi integration brings unique challenges that go beyond classic app development. Radio connections are inherently unreliable: signals fluctuate, connections drop, devices go into sleep mode. A robust BLE app must handle all these scenarios gracefully, automatically reconnect, and keep the user informed about connection status at all times without overwhelming them with technical details.
We have extensive experience with the BLE protocol stack on iOS and Android, know the platform-specific differences, and understand the pitfalls of implementation. Whether GATT services, custom characteristics, over-the-air firmware updates, or coupling with cloud backends for remote control and data analysis – we master the entire chain from hardware interface to user-friendly UI.
Typical projects include controlling smart home devices via BLE, connecting medical measurement devices to health apps, asset tracking solutions for logistics and warehouse management, and indoor positioning systems based on BLE beacons. In each of these projects, close collaboration with the hardware team is critical. We coordinate protocols, data formats, and timing requirements together and test intensively under real conditions – not just in the lab.
Our IoT projects are characterized by a holistic approach. Beyond app development, we assist in defining the BLE service architecture, implement secure pairing procedures, and design cloud connectivity for device management, telemetry data, and over-the-air updates. The result is solutions that not only work technically but are also reliable and intuitive to use in everyday life – a decisive factor for end-user acceptance.
