dguard Motorcycle Safety App

Groenewold IT Solutions took over the dguard motorcycle safety companion app and continues development with us: maintaining and evolving the app for programming and controlling the system, UI for departure times and comfort levels, monitoring pairing and configuration status, and features around emergency, location, and touring—Made in Germany from Leer (East Frisia).

The Challenge

Takeover and continued development of the companion app

The dguard app was already in the market when we took over development—not a greenfield project, but an engagement with an existing codebase, store users, and expectations for continuity. Architecture, coupling with the dguard system, and user journeys are inherited; at the same time, new iOS and Android versions, store policies, and product requirements must be met on an ongoing basis.

Our mandate is to maintain and evolve the acquired app at Groenewold IT Solutions—with stable releases, traceable changes, and a focus on reliability in a safety-critical context.

Safety, connectivity, and everyday riding

Riding combines freedom with elevated risk: in an emergency, fast assistance and reliable location matter. The dguard ecosystem links hardware with the mobile app—riders expect understandable settings, clear status, and robust behaviour even with patchy coverage. Interactions stack up across smartphone, vehicle components, and headsets (Bluetooth, permissions, store updates); the app must present complex functions without overwhelming the UI.

Our Solution

After takeover: maintaining core features and targeted enhancements

After the takeover we maintain and extend the mobile surface used to program and control the dguard system: departure times, comfort levels, and everyday parameters stay tuned to a motorcycle context—large enough for gloved use where appropriate, clear enough for quick glances in safe situations.

Focus areas include evolving core logic—location and routing, notifications, interfaces to backend services—and technical upkeep so app and system stay aligned. Where it makes sense, we reduce UX friction and prepare the codebase so follow-on releases remain maintainable.

Takeover engagement: continued development and releases in Leer (East Frisia)

Further development and delivery run at our site in Leer—Made in Germany with short communication paths, QA on common iOS and Android devices, and predictable store submissions. The companion app remains a dependable part of the dguard product as requirements and platforms evolve.

Results

Benefits for riders

Riders benefit from a maintained, actively developed app: central configuration and understandable status, without core functionality suffering from stale builds or undocumented workarounds. Touring and safety-related features stay usable day to day.

Reference for takeover and continued development of connected companion apps

This project shows how we take over an existing motorcycle safety app and then carry it forward—from device coupling and location/notification logic to stable store releases. If you face a similar situation—handover from another team, growing requirements, need for a partner in Germany—this reference illustrates our approach.

Technology, privacy, and transparency

Location and sensitive data

Safety and emergency features require sound handling of location and device data. Architecturally, such flows are encapsulated; users see what they need to operate the product and understand system status—without flooding the UI with raw technical data.

Quality and releases

For hardware-related products, regression testing and store submissions are part of daily work. We emphasise traceable builds, tests on common devices, and alignment with the product so app and system updates stay in sync.

Why this matters for B2B buyers

Many industrial and mobility products need a dependable app—often for years. The dguard motorcycle safety app shows how we take over a companion app and evolve it in a demanding setting—safety, on the road, limited attention—with robustness, clear UI, and predictable releases rather than a one-off launch mindset.
