Smart Home
The Challenge
Building automation in daily use
Commercial and residential buildings combine presence detectors, lighting controls, and automation. Planners, electricians, and users expect a clear mobile experience without mixing expert and end-user views. Projects can include many device groups; settings must stay traceable and extensible over time. Wireless links (BLE, Wi‑Fi) can be noisy in the field – the app must talk reliably to hardware and guide users with clear status instead of opaque errors.
Platforms, privacy, and maintenance
A building-services app must run on common phones and tablets, meet Apple and Google rules for permissions, background behaviour, and privacy, and stay maintainable through store updates. Different device generations and firmware levels should not break the UX; releases must be plannable when vendor requirements or interfaces change. That calls for solid architecture and close coordination with the manufacturer – typical for our OEM-style work in the DACH region.
Our Solution
App screenshots
From Xamarin to .NET MAUI – continuing the app
The app was originally built with Xamarin; we took over the project and continue development: features, fixes, and migrating the codebase to .NET MAUI so ESYLUX stays on Microsoft’s current cross-platform stack for the long term. Users still create and manage projects, select and configure products, and control connected ESYLUX devices. The UI remains focused on clarity and recurring building tasks, with responsive layouts for phones and tablets. Distribution via the Apple App Store and Google Play (ESY-App).
Working with ESYLUX
ESYLUX provides professional building automation and lighting; the mobile app complements the portfolio and supports installation and operation. With an inherited codebase, clear releases, on-device testing, and aligned migration steps matter—we coordinate requirements and store releases with short feedback loops, developed in Germany with emphasis on quality, maintainability, and clear communication to trade partners and end users.

Results
Benefits for planning, installation, and operations
A central app reduces setup and change effort: projects stay structured, devices are discoverable, and settings remain traceable – instead of juggling isolated tools. For ESYLUX, the app is a digital companion to the hardware and strengthens the user experience in smart home and commercial contexts.
Reference for smart home, BLE, and Wi‑Fi
The project shows how we continue and migrate cross-platform apps (.NET MAUI) for connected building technology—from Xamarin to MAUI, with lighting and automation integration, clear UX, store operations, and ongoing evolution—Made in Germany, with the goal that apps and device ecosystems stay aligned over the long term.
Migration and building automation
From Xamarin to .NET MAUI
Framework migrations in live products need phased planning: parallel builds, feature-freeze windows, and tests on real ESYLUX hardware. MAUI secures long-term Microsoft support without forcing installers to learn a new app world.
“Installers have no time for a second app universe—labels and flows must stay stable across the platform switch.”
Project management, configuration, and device control remain in one continuous UI; BLE and Wi‑Fi scenarios are tested separately.
Trade partners and end users
“Commercial and residential users share one app—roles and depth of settings must still stay clearly separated.”
ESYLUX and Groenewold IT Solutions maintain releases together; development Made in Germany from East Frisia.
Installers benefit from tablet layouts with larger touch targets; end users get reduced views without jargon—from the same codebase.

Frequently asked questions about the ESYLUX smart home app
What makes the ESYLUX smart home app technically special?
It controls lighting and building automation systems and was continued from a Xamarin base onto .NET MAUI. That makes it a strong example of ongoing app development with long-term product responsibility.
Why is the migration from Xamarin to .NET MAUI relevant here?
Because platform transitions in existing products must be planned carefully so users and partners do not feel the break. Cases like this benefit from clean software architecture instead of rushed rewrites.
What role do BLE, Wi-Fi, and project management play in the app?
The app is not just a remote control, but part of a product and installation workflow. That is why wireless communication, configuration, and project logic all have to work together. This is closely related to system integration.
What similar products can learn from this reference?
For manufacturers in smart home, building tech, and lighting automation with mature mobile products. Similar patterns also appear in our mobile app references and connected product work around system integration.
