The Challenge
Industrial strapping in daily operations
Battery strapping tools are used in production, logistics, and on customer sites: they must be configurable reliably, and operations need transparency on cycles, wear, and battery state—without forcing technicians and planners to juggle paper lists alongside isolated tools. A mobile app must present the BLE connection robustly when multiple devices are paired in sequence or when the environment is noisy. Firmware updates should be traceable and safe to roll out without unnecessarily interrupting operations.
Technology and privacy
The application talks to devices over Bluetooth Low Energy: pairing, service UUIDs, and vendor-specific behaviour must work across Android versions and iPhones. Statistics and device data must be understandable; operational data is sensitive—privacy-minded design (minimal data, clear purpose) is often mandatory for industrial buyers. Store policies and permissions for Bluetooth and background behaviour evolve; the app must stay maintainable.

We implemented the FROMM Keep it Smart app for Android and iOS: overview of connected P328 S and P329 S strapping tools with serial numbers and firmware levels, battery monitoring, and strapping statistics for operational use. Firmware updates can be triggered from the app; manuals and spare parts lists are integrated so service teams and operators find information faster. Distribution is via Google Play and the Apple App Store.
