FAQ
Shopware migration costs
Migration budget
What does a migration to Shopware 6 cost?
A migration from Shopware 5 with a standard setup starts at around EUR 16,000–30,000 excl. VAT. Switching from Magento, OXID or WooCommerce with a large catalogue and custom features runs EUR 35,000–80,000. The calculator narrows the range by source system, catalogue size and customisation level.
Why is moving off Shopware 5 urgent?
Shopware 5 support has ended – without security updates, the risk to shop and customer data grows every month. Plugins no longer receive updates either, increasingly blocking PHP and server upgrades. A planned migration is far cheaper than a forced one.
What drives migration costs the most?
Custom features and plugins that do not exist for Shopware 6 and must be rebuilt, plus the data quality of products, variants and customer accounts. A standard shop with clean data migrates far cheaper than a heavily customised shop with a grown plugin stack.

Process & technology
How does a Shopware migration run without interrupting sales?
The new shop is built in parallel to live operations: data is migrated and tested while the old shop keeps selling. At go-live, a final data sync (orders, stock) and the switchover take place – typically during low-traffic hours with only minutes of interruption.
What happens to SEO rankings during a shop migration?
URL structures almost always change with a system switch – without a complete redirect mapping, rankings and revenue are lost. SEO migration (redirects, meta data, structured data, monitoring) is therefore priced as its own work package from about EUR 5,500.
Can order history and customer accounts be migrated?
Yes – customer accounts, order history and credits can be transferred to Shopware 6 so existing customers keep their logins and order views. Effort depends on data volume and source system; the calculator includes this building block from EUR 4,500.
Typical pricing models (overview)
| Model | When it fits | Budget & flexibility | Typical risks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fixed price (fixed scope) | Clearly defined scope, stable requirements, repeatable delivery. | Predictable total cost; little room for change without a change order. | Scope creep leads to change orders or quality trade-offs. |
| Time & Material | Discovery, legacy, evolving requirements, or close collaboration. | Maximum flexibility; budget transparent via hourly or daily rates. | Without prioritisation, effort can grow—backlog and reviews matter. |
| Retainer / maintenance package | Ongoing operations, updates, small features, and support. | Agreed capacity per month; predictable follow-on cost. | Large changes may still need a separate estimate. |
| Hybrid (milestone + T&M) | MVP or phased releases with clear go-lives, then iterate. | Core delivery fixed price; extensions on a time-and-materials basis. | Define contractually what is in scope vs. extra work. |
