Business continuity & disaster recovery for your IT

When critical systems fail, clear targets, tested procedures and dependable recovery matter – not backups alone.

BC/DR

At a glance

  • RTO/RPO agreed in writing with business stakeholders – not only inside IT.
  • Failover paths designed to work under stress – with clear ownership.
  • Exercises and evidence for audits: documented tests instead of “we once tried it”.

Typical challenges

Unclear priorities

Without prioritised business processes, recovery budgets spread thinly instead of protecting critical chains first.

Backup without recovery

Data is copied, but restore duration, dependencies and integrity after ransomware are not rehearsed.

Manual heroics

Incidents rely on individuals – runbooks and automation are missing or outdated.

Regulatory evidence

NIS2 and sector rules expect demonstrable controls – not policies sitting in a drawer.

What we deliver

  • Assessment & protection needs: critical apps, data classes, dependencies and single points of failure – aligned with your IT security context.
  • RTO/RPO & scenarios: measurable targets mapped to technical measures (replication, standby, cloud recovery).
  • Failover concepts: architecture and automation – see also on-premise vs. cloud.
  • Runbooks & light incident flow: practical steps for your teams with monitoring hooks.
  • Tests & exercises: tabletop to partial technical restore – with lessons learned feeding your backlog.

How we work

  1. Discovery & scope: workshops on critical processes, inventory and contracts/SLAs.
  2. Concept & prioritisation: BC/DR target picture with roadmap and cost band.
  3. Implementation: automation, infrastructure adjustments, CI/CD hooks where sensible – Made in Germany, East Frisia.
  4. Testing & documentation: evidence and runbooks anchored in exercises.
  5. Improvement loop: regular reviews when architecture or the org changes.

Why Groenewold IT Solutions

  • End-to-end: architecture, development and operations – not slides only.
  • Mid-market friendly: prioritised, measurable steps – not oversized enterprise programmes.
  • Custom software experience: recovery must fit your releases and APIs – see software development.
  • Long-term: we support evolution and modernisation so BC/DR does not rot.

Methodology & ROI

ROI shows up in shorter outages, fewer penalties and calmer incidents. We relate downtime costs to prioritisation – with explicit assumptions your organisation can own. More on approach: methodology overview.

Costs & delivery

BC/DR: budget, timeline and operations

Budget, exercises and ownership

What does a BC/DR programme typically cost for a mid-sized organisation?

A structured assessment and a prioritised concept often start in the low five-figure euro range; implementation scales with landscape complexity and regulatory expectations. After short scoping we provide a transparent range – without hidden line items.

What RTO/RPO targets are realistic for us?

It depends on critical processes, infrastructure and budget. Many organisations begin with staged targets (e.g. hours for RTO, minutes to hours for RPO on core systems) and improve iteratively. We align expectations and cost.

How often should we run recovery exercises?

At least annually for documented scenarios; more often when change velocity or regulatory pressure is high – sometimes as partial technical tests or tabletops. Frequency should follow risk and architecture changes.

Do you operate our backups?

We can deliver recovery automation, monitoring and runbooks and coordinate with your operations or a partner – full operations depends on SLA and systems. We clarify roles in the first conversation.
