Process mining: understand first, then automate

For mid-sized companies: event logs from ERP & CRM reveal bottlenecks, variants and ROI potential—before bot spend – delivery and project ownership from Germany (Leer/East Frisia), named contacts, no offshore guesswork.

Process mining analyses event logs from ERP, CRM or ticketing systems and objectively shows deviations, wait times and automation potential—the basis for sensible RPA and workflow investment.

Without process mining, many teams automate the wrong processes—expensive and frustrating.

Process mining as the foundation for intelligent automation

Process mining reconstructs real process flows from digital traces (event logs): who did what when, where wait times appear, which variants dominate. Unlike workshop process maps it delivers objective data—especially valuable before RPA, Power Automate or n8n projects.

We work with Celonis, UiPath Process Mining, Power Automate Process Advisor and open-source alternatives—depending on your source systems (SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, ServiceNow, Jira).

The outcome is a prioritised automation backlog with business case: not “automate everything”, but processes with high volume, stable rules and measurable benefit.

Our services at a glance

Data extraction

Securely extract and anonymise event logs from ERP, CRM, workflow tools.

Process discovery

Visualise as-is process, variants, bottlenecks and rework loops.

Conformance checking

Target vs actual—deviations and compliance risks.

Automation prioritisation

ROI scoring for RPA, API or workflow per process.

Simulation

What-if: model automation impact on cycle time.

Continuous mining

KPI dashboards after go-live to steer the automation programme.

From process mining to RPA roadmap

Process mining shows which processes run chaotically despite neat target documentation—where bots fail first. We filter candidates with high rule stability and export insights into your automation roadmap (/en/services/rpa-implementation, /en/services/n8n-workflows).

Combined with intelligent automation: mining finds the process, RPA/UI automation handles stable steps, AI handles exceptions (OCR, classification).

Process mining in mid-market—even without SAP enterprise scale

Mid-market ERP and CRM systems also provide enough event data for meaningful mining—when extraction and anonymisation are planned properly.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ: Process mining

Data, tools and benefit

Which systems do we need for process mining?

Ideally ERP, CRM or workflow tools with activity logs (SAP, Dynamics, Odoo, ServiceNow, Jira). At minimum we need case ID, activity and timestamp. We check data quality in a scoping workshop.

Does process mining replace workshops?

No—it complements them. Mining delivers objective as-is data; workshops deliver context, exceptions and political reality. Together they prevent bad automation investment.

What does a process mining pilot cost?

Scoping and first pilot often €7,000–20,000 depending on log quality, anonymisation and tool licence. Outcome is a prioritised automation backlog with ROI—not just dashboards. Guidance: /en/costs/automation and /en/costs/rpa-roi.

Implementation, GDPR and handover to automation

How do you handle GDPR for event logs?

Pseudonymisation, minimisation of personal attributes, DPAs with tool vendors and clear retention periods. We document processing purposes for works council and privacy teams—process mining is not unchecked employee surveillance.

Which process mining tool do you recommend?

Celonis for SAP-heavy estates; UiPath Process Mining when RPA follows; Power Automate Process Advisor in the Microsoft stack; open source on limited budget. Decision by source systems, team and follow-on project—not tool marketing.

What happens after the mining project?

You receive a prioritised backlog with business case per process—handover to RPA, n8n, Power Automate or API refactoring. We optionally support implementation of the top three candidates and measure savings against the mining baseline.
