Shopware 6 is the market-leading e-commerce platform in German-speaking countries – with native B2B support, strong ERP integration and a modern API-first architecture. Thousands of merchants from mid-market to enterprise run their online shops on Shopware. Compared with WooCommerce, Shopware 6 delivers significantly better performance with large product catalogues, a more structured plugin architecture and a stronger GDPR-ready baseline for the German market.

Shopware 6 shop development – B2B and B2C storefront with product catalogue

Our Shopware services

From B2C relaunch to B2B suite with ERP sync – with clear scope and fixed price after a discovery workshop.

Shopware 6 shop development

We build custom Shopware 6 shops from the ground up: UX concept, custom theme and full shop configuration (payment methods, shipping rules, tax classes, multilingual setup). For B2B shops we configure customer groups, tier prices, approval workflows and quick-order features.

Shopware plugin development

When standard plugins do not meet your requirements, we develop custom Shopware plugins: product configurators, calculation logic, interfaces to external systems, custom checkout extensions or admin modules for special workflows.

ERP and PIM integration

Shopware 6 offers a full REST API. We build interfaces between Shopware and your ERP (Odoo, SAP, Navision), PIM or inventory system: products, prices and stock sync automatically; orders flow back into the ERP.

Shopware migration and performance

Still on Shopware 5 or another platform (Magento, WooCommerce, Oxid)? We migrate your data structurally to Shopware 6 – with minimal downtime and full data consistency. We also optimise performance: caching, Elasticsearch, CDN and lazy loading for better Core Web Vitals.

With Shopware 6, architecture matters—not the theme alone: B2B pricing logic, ERP sync without double maintenance and plugins that survive updates—or the shop becomes an expensive island solution.

Shopware B2B and checkout – processes before pixels

Successful Shopware projects clarify roles, approvals and integration paths first—then theme, Rule Builder and checkout. That keeps the shop scalable as catalogues and customer groups grow.

Frequently asked questions

FAQ on Shopware development

Platform choice and architecture

What does a Shopware 6 shop cost?
A Shopware 6 shop typically costs between €8,000 and €150,000 excl. VAT depending on scope. A simple B2C shop with a standard theme, up to 500 products and basic payment providers is €8,000–20,000. Custom shops with bespoke theme, configurators, ERP integration and B2B features cost €30,000–80,000; enterprise setups with multi-store and full ERP/PIM integration from €80,000. Community Edition is free; Shopware Commercial from €600/month. Orientation: online shop costs and project check.
Shopware 6 or WooCommerce — which fits better?
Shopware 6 is the better choice for DACH focus, professional ERP integration, large catalogues with variants and B2B requirements (customer groups, tier prices). WooCommerce fits when WordPress is already in place and the assortment stays manageable. Shopware offers stronger performance with large catalogues, a more structured plugin architecture and an active German developer community. For mid-market projects we usually recommend Shopware 6 – details in our Shopware vs Magento comparison.
Shopware or Magento — when which platform?
Shopware 6 is often the more pragmatic choice in the German mid-market: faster go-live, lower TCO, strong B2B suite and GDPR baseline. Magento / Adobe Commerce pays off with very large catalogues (50,000+ SKUs), complex multi-store internationalisation and deep B2B pricing logic. We compare honestly in Shopware vs Magento and against Magento development.
What is the difference between a Shopware theme and an extension?

A theme affects visual appearance: colours, fonts, layout and Twig templates. An extension (plugin) adds features or changes business logic – e.g. a new payment module, product configurator or ERP sync. Themes are more stable across updates; extensions may need adjustments on major releases. We separate presentation and logic cleanly so updates stay predictable.

Headless Shopware – when is API-first worth it?
A classic Shopware frontend goes live faster and is more SEO-friendly out of the box. Headless with React, Vue or Next.js pays off for omnichannel (app + web + POS), highly individual UX or separate release cycles for marketing and IT. Shopware 6 provides REST and Store API. We plan architecture and hosting from the start – see also Next.js development for storefronts.

Costs, licences and migration

How does Shopware 6 compare in cost to Shopify or WooCommerce?

Shopware 6 Community Edition: free (open source). Shopware Rise: from €600/month, Evolution from €2,000/month. Shopify: from €36/month plus transaction fees (0.5–2%). WooCommerce: free, but plugin, hosting and maintenance costs apply. For custom shops above €1m revenue Shopware 6 is often cheaper in TCO than SaaS models – because licence and hosting stay controllable.

How do we migrate from Shopware 5 to Shopware 6?
Shopware 5 is end-of-life – staying on it is a security risk. Migration via Migration Tool: product data, customer data, order history and SEO URLs. Design and extensions are rebuilt for SW6 (Twig instead of Smarty, Vue.js). We plan outside peak season with clear rollback scenarios and a 301 redirect matrix. See also legacy modernisation for adjacent legacy systems.
Can you migrate from Magento, WooCommerce or Oxid to Shopware?

Yes. We extract catalogue, customers and order history structurally, map attributes to the Shopware data model and define SEO redirects for existing rankings. Themes and plugins are redesigned – avoiding technical debt from the platform switch. Typical duration: 8–16 weeks depending on data quality and integration scope. Staging sign-off before DNS switch.

What is Shopware Flow Builder and when is it useful?

Flow Builder automates business processes without code: send order confirmations, segment customers, trigger stock notifications, create internal tasks. For standard workflows Flow Builder is often enough. For complex processes with external APIs, ERP feedback or custom calculation logic we develop custom extensions via the plugin mechanism – update-safe and testable.

B2B, integrations and operations

What is Shopware B2B Suite and is it worth it?

Shopware B2B Suite (Shopware Commercial) offers customer groups with individual prices, order limits and approval workflows, quick order by SKU, quote functionality and debtor management. For pure B2B merchants with fixed customer relationships and tier prices it pays off from around 50 business customers. Smaller B2B cases can also be mapped with community plugins – we advise which approach is more economical.

Can Shopware 6 integrate with our ERP system?
Yes. Shopware 6 offers a full REST API for bidirectional sync: products, stock, prices, orders and customer data. For SAP, Odoo, Navision/Business Central and Sage there are connectors or modules; where none fit we build middleware with error logging and manual overrides. Details: API integration and system integration.
Which SEO features does Shopware 6 offer?
Shopware 6 includes clean URL structures, meta tags per product and category, canonical URLs, XML sitemap, structured data (Schema.org) and hreflang for multilingual shops. For top rankings we additionally recommend content clusters and landing pages – see online shop creation and Shopware vs Magento in our topics area.
How do maintenance, updates and performance optimisation work?
We run staging with production-like data, test extensions before Shopware updates and use deployment pipelines (Composer, cache warmup). Performance: Elasticsearch, Redis/Varnish, CDN, AVIF images and Core Web Vitals checks before go-live. SLAs for patch windows are agreed in the maintenance contract – updates stay predictable instead of reactive. Hosting: managed hosting.
